Sam Rivers' 1967 avant-garde masterpiece, Dimensions & Extensions, is part of the audiophile Blue Note Tone Poet Series on vinyl. Originally recorded in 1967 but not officially released until 1986, this album serves as the final installment of Rivers' 1960s run for Blue Note.
The album features a rare avant-garde appearance by trumpeter Donald Byrd, alongside an all-star lineup including Julian Priester, James Spaulding, Cecil McBee, and Steve Ellington. As a Tone Poet release, this LP has been fully remastered from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray, pressed on heavy 180-gram vinyl at RTI, and housed in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.
