Freddie Hubbard's 1961 hard bop classic, Hub Cap, is available as a premium audiophile reissue under Blue Note Records' highly acclaimed Tone Poet Vinyl Series. Released in October 2026, this stereo LP edition is produced by Joe Harley and mastered entirely AAA from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. The record is pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl at Record Technology Inc. (RTI) and comes packaged in a deluxe, high-gloss tip-on gatefold jacket.
Recorded in April 1961, Hub Cap served as the brilliant trumpeter's third studio session for Blue Note and marked his emergence as a prominent composer, featuring four original tracks like "Luana" and "Osie Mae". The performance features a stellar sextet line-up:
- Freddie Hubbard (Trumpet)
- Julian Priester (Trombone)
- Jimmy Heath (Tenor Saxophone)
- Cedar Walton (Piano)
- Larry Ridley (Bass)
- Philly Joe Jones (Drums)
